Dani’s survived a lot of sh*t storms.

Her mother died. Her two sisters loathed her. One aunt hated her. The other was strangely distant, but the worst storm—being dumped by her childhood best friend/high school boyfriend/first love for her younger sister.

There went the one person who was hers and with that, the main reason she stuck around. So, she left for ten years. But now she’s back, and nothing’s the same.

With help from Jonah Bannon, a reformed—kind of—bad boy she remembers from high school, Dani uncovers family secrets that have spanned generations. And along with those, she’s about to face the biggest sh*t storm of her life.

Only this time, she may not survive.

I’ve never read a book by author Tijan before and to be honest until I downloaded Home Tears yesterday I’d never heard of her, period. That being said this book is one of the best books I’ve read this year, it seriously wrecked all the vulnerable parts hidden inside of me to only make them shine with hope and life again. Tijan knows how to weave a story around you and in this case it wasn’t a beautiful Cinderella story, it was a story of life and how it kicks you in the ass every chance you give it. That’s right , I said every chance you give it , because in this story Dani had every chance to stop life but she didn’t take it and sometimes the hardest lessons are ones we have to learn over and over. So if you’ve lived under a rock like myself and never heard of Tijan, then read this book. You might not know if you should cry, smile or  flip off life and say “take that you finicky  bitch” but you will be left with one of those emotions!!

Danielle “Dani” O’Hara has had an absolute crap life and after one more tragedy she decides to head back to the source of all her past wrongs, but the only home she’s ever known. All she really  wants to do is lay low but in a small town she’s allowed to do anything but lay low and let’s not start with the small town rumors that start spreading, but the most important rumor is that after 10 yrs Dani is back and not dead. Dani is that lost puppy you find on the street that cowers when you go to touch it in fear that you will hurt it, but also wants you to prove it wrong and take care of it and love it. Dani is the weakest/strong character I’ve ever read which just earns her mad respect from me because we’ve all been that girl at some point. Her character wasn’t perfect and maybe that’s why I loved her so much, because she was believable.

I really wish I got more of a story on Jonah Bannon. He was everything he needed to be for Dani, but I feel like there was so much more we didn’t get on him that would have just made this book that much more of an unstoppable force. Jonah is a strong personality but there are hints left that he’s not as strong as we think. He’s the guy that everybody loves, men look up to him and women flock to him, but why? Other than his good looks and being an all around cool guy I’m missing so much on what makes him what he is. That’s the worst thing I can say about this book, because despite my nit picking Jonah is strong and vulnerable and able to save Dani from herself by offering and ear to listen and the right questions to ask.  Dani and Jonah’s dynamic isn’t overly romantic but it’s perfect for this story, it’s perfect for them and for people who might possibly have trust issues, they seem to gravitate to each other.

I cant call this a simple romance novel because to me it’s not. It’s a journey of self discovery, digging for the truth, love, friendship and loss. This book will hit your emotions across the board, and maybe you’ll need a moment to sit back and reflect about how you feel but any amazing book should leave you feeling that way

You see, I was my own monster. When you don’t have hope, something  can grow inside of you that will just keep hurting, biting, snarling. You sink farther, an eventually the monster will overtake you.

Some people don’t fight back. They might hurt others, hurt themselves, or relinquish the fight for happiness.

Read it people, trust me !!
